Lots of Cooking Channel, and the dreary weather this weekend led to me going ‘Italian’. While waiting for the sun to come out, I created le Ciambelle. These are a great dessert or even appetizer. These has a good blend of sweetness with white wine, sugar, and then the anise seeds balance it off with a good licorice flavor.
INGREDIENTS
- 4 cups flower
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup virgin olive oil
- 1 cup white wine
- 2 tablespoons anise seeds
DIRECTIONS
Make a well in the center of the flour and add the sugar olive oil, and wine. Knead until the mixture becomes an even dough. If you have some extra moisture, add flour until you have a nice dough. Sprinkle in the anise seeds and knead it into the dough. Cut off a small amount of dough and roll into a 1/2-inch thick log. Then form a ‘doughnut-like’ shape by pinching opposite ends together. Repeat
