Over the past week, I had a new assignment to find 4 authentic Latin restaurants in Des Moines. Each one had something very unique about it. It allowed me to explore places in Des Moines that I wouldn’t normally think of visiting, or eat at. This is something that all of us should do sometime. Pick a style of food, do research through Yelp, Google, even other local bloggers. Sometimes, especially me, get caught up on some of the big, most common restaurants but this gets you to expand your taste buds, and keeps your mind open for new places and recommendations for when the next time someone asks you where to go eat for _____ cuisine. After reflecting on my meals and experience, these are the 3 things that I noticed while on my latest food assignment.
1) Food is the center piece.
One thing that I noticed is that the 4 places I went to all had similar ambiance but they weren’t too concerned about that aspect. It seems like now a days some restaurants get too caught up on a theme, or worry about the ambiance and forget that people come to eat a great meal. At these restaurants, the food was the center piece, and they all nailed it.
2) Work For It
Now, every restaurant truly does work for it. Servers, chefs, owners, and bartenders really do all work so hard to make the restaurant happen. There’s something different though with these restaurants. Family is usually present. It’s such a neat experience to see a family all in it together.
